Black Americans are the fastest growing vegan population, with stars like Serena Williams, Ava DuVernay and Cam Newton leading the way. But even as veganism grows among those with the means to obtain healthy food, the broader Black community is plagued by food deserts, and the health problems that result from a lack of fresh food and produce in their neighborhoods.
